Discuss the parallels between Dorian’s story and the Faust legend. Does Dorian make a pact with the devil?

Opinions on my weekly book.

 

Faust was a successful scholar in Germany who was not satisfied with the knowledge and worldy goods he had.  That made him make a deal with the deal, and he traded his soul for boundless knowledge and endless materialistic objects.  In exchange for all this, Faust is to go to hell after his life in the world was over.  The Faust Legend is directly related to The Picture of Dorian Gray.  The storyline and the psychological basis of this book is very similar to the legend and seems like Dorian Gray was inspired by the ancient tale.  Dorian Gray, in the beginning of the novel, was a very handsome innocent young man who was naïve and fair.  Two men were fascinated by his aura. They were Basil and Lord Henry.  Basil was a renounced painter who fell under the spell of Dorian Gray.  He was absolutely charmed by him and throughout the novel it is shown that he worshipped Dorian.  Lord Henry, on the other hand, was all well spellbound by Dorian.  But, Lord Henry thought of Dorian as an interesting topic of observation and influenced Dorian in bad ways.  Like Faust, Dorian knew he had a lot in the materialistic world.  He was handsome, rich, and educated.  Unlike Faust, who was craving knowledge, Dorian wanted  eternal beauty and youth.  It is not really clear in the book how this transaction worked, but a painting of Dorian Gray aged and showed Dorian’s corrupt spirit while Dorian stayed young.  Dorian began to notice that his painting aged when he broke the heart of a young girl, Sibyl.  Dorian was fascinated by the idea of Hedonism, to live life only through pleasure.  His road to corruption started by the suicide of Sibyl Vane.  From then on, his flawless life and reputation began to spiral.  Dorian’s sins began to become horrid and everytime a sin was committed, his picture started to look even more ghastly.  I am not sure why his hunger for sin and corrupting began.  His aging painting may have sparked it, but it is still confusing how his mind works, and what urges him to all this gruesome deeds.  It makes me wonder, did the devil really make him do it? Or did Dorian let the devil inside of him through greed and youth?  What motivation urged him to start impacting on young men, killing them and even ruining their reputation?  Dorian Gray is still quite a mystery to me.  At the end of the novel, did Dorian realize of his sins or did he kill himself by accident? What beauty and greed does to a man.  Dorian’s fatal flaw was the fear of death and old age.

 

Confused.

I have fallen to deeply into a drama. Like I am actually part of the story. I get mad when something doesn’t go right, and I get frustrated when the main character doesn’t see something very obvious. I wonder how actors feel when they act. Do they ever relate to their characters in real life? I wonder if actors ever get confused about what is acting and what is reality; like the viewers.

I have fallen in love with a character. A make believe person. Is that sad?

Happy Thanksgiving!

I haven’t updated my blog in forever.  School has been killing me these days.  Less than a month to bring my grades up……. Oh SNAAAP.

I’ve been hating people recently.  You know, being annoyed and lazy by having no social life.  Oh welll. I guess that’s high school.  Many controversies rose this month.  I can’t talk about them now, but they are shaking up my small town.  Great. 

Guess what I have been up too?

Studying.  but my hallow brain doesn NOT understand AP chem.  Anyone wanna hook me up with a tutaaa? jkjkjk

I’ve also been into this “inspirational photography” except my head is not being helpful on being creative.  I look at all these pictures on Flickr and I’m like, ” Screw copyright, Imma gonna steal this!” Sooo this so called ”inspiration” has not been coming to me yet. Sighh. 

But, it is Thanksgiving so I shall not be in a pessimistic mood today. 

I am so glad I have so many great friends ( and some who need to update their blogs as well), I live in ‘Merrica, and a great church.  Please keep the Koreans victimized in the artillery shelling in your prayers .

Korean netizens make me want to punch puppies

Sorry, my title is graphic, but I am so overfed by these retarded comments made by people with no lives.  ( OH AND LONG TIME NO SEE) 

A SHOUTOUT TO KOREAN NETIZENS: GET A FREAKIN LIFE. YOU PEOPLE DESTROY LIVES AND HAPPINESS.

Asian people are very criticizing.  You can’t be fat.  You have to be gorgeous.  Then if you are gorgeous, then you get the haterz.  Nothing satisfies them.  They always have to find something that makes them feel more superior than the others. 
This pattern grew worse after the Korean wave, where singers starting popping up, dramas starting becoming very popular, and soon Korea became a country that only cares about celebrities.  I’m korean, and I am not proud of it.  Celebrities are all that matter in Korea.  People become stalkers and creepers and find personal information about celebrities.  These so called “netizens” bash celebrities online, try to kill celebrities, cut themselves for celebrities, and even make antifanclubs to try to bring them down.

But the thing that drew the last straw for me was the Tablo and MC Mong controversies that were floating around.  KOREAN NETIZENS BELIEVE THE FREAKIN MAN.  Tablo did graduate from Stanford, and he shows you proof and you don’t believe him.  Even his STANFORD professors say that he did graduate from that university, and you retarded netizens still don’t believe him.  Even if Tablo did brag or exaggerate a bit, the fact is still a fact: HE GRADUATED FROM FREAKIN STANDFORD.  Still, does it matter if he graduated from that school? He’s a rapper for goodness sakes.  Currently the group TaJinYo( tell the truth tablo) is suing Tablo for plagiarism.  If any of you guys who are in that group are reading this, you deserve this rant and you need to stop trying to get attention.  You people are an embarrassment to the us, the South Koreans.  Remember, karma will get back at you. <3
